Asbestos Sampling and Bulk Analysis

Asbestos Sampling and Surveying

It’s not always necessary to conduct a full survey to identify asbestos-containing material (ACM), but only laboratory analysis can truly confirm the presence and type of asbestos. We offer a sampling service to identify asbestos in client-supplied samples or can visit your location to safely collect samples and return them for analysis.

Our sampling technicians are fully trained, competent, and equipped to ensure that samples are taken safely and controlled, minimising the risk of inadvertent fibre release. Sample points will be safely encapsulated upon completion and marked with a location sticker where appropriate. Our booking staff will ask a few simple questions about the type and location of material to be sampled and will arrange a visit at the earliest convenient time for you. We also provide an out-of-hours emergency service for damaged suspect materials.

Sample analysis is conducted in our laboratory at our head office using polarised light microscopy by P401 trained and authorised analysts. Asbestos sample analysis must only be performed by laboratories holding UKAS accreditation ISO 17025. Our in-house testing laboratory holds UKAS accreditation (Ref. No. 24642), and we also have access to a network of other approved and accredited laboratories throughout the UK to ensure speedy results.

Sample results can be provided as a simple bulk analysis report or a more detailed sampling report incorporating photographs and annotated plans, depending on your requirements.

During our surveys, our surveyors collect bulk samples for laboratory analysis to identify the presence and type of asbestos. Our staff undergo regular audits to ensure accurate results are delivered promptly. We offer a premium turnaround service with options for 4-hour, 24-hour, and ‘while you wait’ results, subject to availability.

The bulk analysis certificate, included in the inspection report, specifies the inspected areas and indicates the presence of any non-suspect items or asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). If ACMs are found, the report details the type of asbestos. We can also provide a standalone bulk analysis certificate, which identifies the inspected areas and the presence of any ACMs or non-suspect materials.
