Who Is Responsible for Asbestos Management in Schools and Commercial Buildings?
Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, there’s a legal duty to manage asbestos in non-domestic buildings.
Who is the duty-holder?
- Building owners.
- Landlords.
- Tenants with repair responsibility.
- Facilities managers.
Responsibilities include
- Asbestos surveys.
- Up-to-date registers.
- Risk assessments and management plans.
- Regular inspections.
- Sharing information with contractors.
Why schools are a priority
Many contain asbestos from the 1950s–80s. Teachers and pupils are at risk if asbestos is unmanaged.
